How to translate your business vision into branding photos

How to translate your business vision into branding photos.

Designing a photoshoot based on your business vision involves translating your brand’s values, identity, and goals into a visual story.

It can be such a worthwhile thing to do because it means you’ll have a bank of targeted photos that you’ll be able to use to talk about your business and get visible!

Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you plan your next photoshoot:

Clarify Your Business Vision

Begin by revisiting and refining your business vision and mission statements. But wow, that seems like a whole lot of boring… so what does your business aim to achieve, and what core values does it embody?

Your photoshoot should align with these principles.

Identify Your Target Audience

Understand your target audience’s preferences, interests, and demographics. Consider what branding photos would resonate most with them.

So for me, my target audience is female business owners usually about 40 years old.

I find my audience connect with photos relating to:

  • work/life balance
  • Self confidence
  • Fashion
  • Small businesses
  • Books
  • Women supporting women
  • Imposter syndrome

Define the Purpose of the Photoshoot

Determine the specific goals of the photoshoot.

Are you aiming to promote a new product, build brand awareness, showcase company culture, or tell a compelling brand story? The purpose will guide the types of photos you need.

Create a Mood Board

Gather inspiration by creating a mood board.

Collect images, colours, and styles that reflect the mood and atmosphere you want to convey through your photos.

Tools like Pinterest or mood board apps can be helpful.

Before every shoot I do, we create a joint PINTEREST board so I can see what you’re thinking, and have a guide to the style of image you like, and what you might be comfortable doing in the photos.

Select Locations and Props

Choose locations and props that complement your brand’s identity and the mood you want to create.

Choosing the right location for a photoshoot is essential, as it can significantly impact the overall look and feel of the photos. A light bright airy shoot location might not work for you, where as a colourful fun location could be perfect. What feelings do you want the photos to create?

Consider Styling and Wardrobe

Plan your clothing and styling to work with your brand’s aesthetics.

If you’re relaxed and laid back then you’d probably avoid a business suit, and if your business is more corporate, you’ll likely need to dress more formally?

Though from my experience, wearing something you feel nice in, works better than anything!

Incorporate Brand Elements:

Can you infuse your brand’s visual elements, like logos, colour palettes, and typography, into the photos.

Could you have branded mugs, a wall with your logo on it, or even just your computer screen with you logo?

Storyboard the Narrative:

Create a narrative that ties all the elements together. Think about how each photo contributes to the overall story and message you want to convey.

Could you be showing your journey or perhaps even just how you make your product?

Collaborate with Professionals:

Working with a professional photographer, maybe a stylist and a makeup artist, can help bring your brand to life.
