The Hidden Cost of Cheap Brand Photography

The Hidden Cost of Cheap Brand Photography (and what to do instead).

If you’re investing in brand photography, you probably know how important it is to have strong visuals. But too often, I see business owners choosing a photographer based on convenience, price, or a quick fix.

And that’s where things start to go wrong.

Maybe you’re at a networking event, and there’s a photographer offering a few headshots for cheap. Or you spot a content day where someone with an iPhone is throwing in a couple of photos as part of the deal. And it’s tempting to think, That’ll do.

But here’s the thing: That won’t do.

I Get It – When You’re Just Starting Out, A Quick Snap Can Be Enough

When you’re in the early days of your business, there’s definitely a place for grabbing a few quick shots—just something to put on your website or LinkedIn while you get things moving. I completely understand that.

But by the time you’ve put years of effort into building your business, refining your brand, and attracting high-quality clients, it’s such a shame to still be relying on those quick, one-size-fits-all solutions.

And the reality? At these networking events or content days, you have no control over the location, the lighting, or even how you’re posed. You’re often squeezed into a busy schedule, rushed through a few shots, and left with photos that don’t truly reflect your brand or position you at the level you’ve worked so hard to reach.

What Most ‘Quick & Cheap’ Brand Photography Misses

Brand photography isn’t just about getting ‘a few nice snaps’—it’s about crafting images that work strategically for your business. And that takes more than a good camera or a quick-fire session. It takes experience, attention to detail, and a photographer who understands exactly how to make you look and feel your best.

When I photograph you, I’m not just clicking the shutter and hoping for the best. I’m looking at:

  • The lighting – because bad lighting will never do you justice.
  • The background – because a cluttered or uninspiring setting can ruin a strong image.
  • Your outfit and styling – ensuring everything looks polished and cohesive.
  • Your comfort in front of the camera – because if you feel awkward, it will show.

I’ve spent 18 years photographing women—not just capturing what they look like, but ensuring their brand photos reflect their expertise, personality, and the level of business they’ve built.

What You Get When You Work With Me

Whether it’s one of my Signature Brand Shoots or a Mini Brand Refresh, every session is designed to give you high-quality, strategic imagery that actually moves your business forward. I don’t do ‘quick snaps that will do’—I create polished, professional photos that you’ll be excited to share.

And because the details matter, I also retouch every image—not to change how you look, but to ensure a flawless finish that enhances the quality and keeps the focus on you.

Hi There!

Meet Maryanne

I’m a 40 (ahem something…) year old Yorkshire woman.

I’ve been self employed for 10 years (and a photographer for 18) and I totally understand how difficult it is to be visible in business.

Whether that’s because of a lack of self confidence, feeling a bit frumpy or the physical side effects of peri-menopause (hot sweats and forgetfulness anyone) – I promise you I’ve seen it all and still get great photos at every photoshoot.

I honestly feel so honoured when people book me, because they believe that I really want the best outcome for you. There’s no point having a fancy photoshoot if it doesn’t feel authentic to you.

My aim for every shoot is to get photos and video that you actually want to share… and I’ll be there in the side lines cheering you on!
