Branding photos for photographers

Choosing the right brand photographer when you’re a photographer too, is like finding the perfect camera lens – it’s a game-changer!

You might have tried to get photos of yourself in the past… figured out how to use the timer on your DSLR and then realised it’s much harder to direct yourself.

So then you end up using the same photo from a wedding you did years ago… but you know you need to show up a bit more for visibility!

That’s exactly what happened for Lisa Kershaw of Drawn by Light Photography. She wanted to be more visible on social media.

So here are some tips to help you on your quest for the perfect brand photographer:

The Portfolio Stalk

Dive into photographers’ portfolios like you’re scrolling through cat memes when you really should be editing (just me??) ! Find a style that speaks to YOU and makes you say, “Yes, this is the photographer who can capture my fabulousness.”

Niche, Please!

We’re not looking for just any photographer; we’re hunting down a personal brand magician. Find someone who specialises in turning ‘you’ into ‘you on your best day,’ through posing, the actual technical aspects and photoshop.

Love Local

Go local, my friend! A photographer who understands the quirks of your town or city will add that extra sprinkle of magic to your images, and give a little context to who you are and where you’re from.

Communication

A photoshoot is a collaboration, not a monologue. Make sure your photographer is ready to be your visual BFF. Communication is the biggest thing when it comes to getting the photos you need.

Kind words

Positive feedback is what we’re looking for here. It might be that you already know and like the photographer – but it’s important to see what other people are saying too.

Styling it out

Whilst you might not need someone who has the exact style you have when it comes to photos, it’s a good idea to book a brand photographer who can do something similar. So that when you share your own work alongside the new brand photos – it all blends together.

Photoshop Maestro

Ask about their Photoshop skills. You might want a photographer who can do something a little different, or who has the retouching skills to match the image in your head.

Trust Your Vibes:

You know yourself, that if you click with a client the shoot (or wedding) will work so much better. Trust your gut like you trust your GPS – it might take a weird route, but it knows what it’s doing.

Choosing your brand photographer should be fun, so don’t be afraid to speak to lots of different photograhers.

And if you need my help… just message me.

B-roll

Hi There!

Meet Maryanne

I’m a 40 (ahem something…) year old Yorkshire woman.

I’ve been self employed for 10 years (and a photographer for 18) and I totally understand how difficult it is to be visible in business.

Whether that’s because of a lack of self confidence, feeling a bit frumpy or the physical side effects of peri-menopause (hot sweats and forgetfulness anyone) – I promise you I’ve seen it all and still get great photos at every photoshoot.

I honestly feel so honoured when people book me, because they believe that I really want the best outcome for you. There’s no point having a fancy photoshoot if it doesn’t feel authentic to you.

My aim for every shoot is to get photos and video that you actually want to share… and I’ll be there in the side lines cheering you on!
