Will AI Images replace brand photographers?

Why AI Images Will Not Replace Brand Photographers

The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) in image creation has left a lot of us wondering about the future of various professions, including brand photography.

But can algorithms really capture the essence of a brand the way human brand photographers can?

I’m not so sure…

1. Emotion Can’t Be Programmed

For a start, the heart of every powerful brand image is a real person, a real business.

Brand photographers rely on their intuition and an understanding of people to capture these stories. Rather than it being the equipment that takes the photo… its the photographer and how they see the world.

While AI can mimic patterns, it cannot genuinely ‘feel’ or comprehend the depth of human feelings and expressions.

From what I’ve seen it can’t replicate a “real” smile that connects with the eyes like a Brand photographer can.

2. Authenticity Is Key in Branding

Being authentic in your brand photos is key. You need people to connect with you and starting off with a computer generated photo just isn’t going to cut it.

It could be viewed as inauthentic at best and at worst a misrepresentation.

3. The Dynamic Nature of Photography

Photo sessions are unpredictable. Changing lights, unplanned moments, or a sudden burst of inspiration are common.

Brand photographers thrive in these scenarios, adapting swiftly.

It’s often during these times that the Brand photographer finds their creative flow. The photos I always like best are the ones “in between”, when you’ve posed for a photo but then you relax and I keep taking photos. Sometimes these outtakes are just perfect.

4. Collaboration is Crucial

One of the beautiful aspects of brand photography is the collaboration between brand photographers, clients, stylists and make-up artists.

Shared visions and feedback work together to shape the final photo. AI tools, no matter how sophisticated, can’t replicate this human dynamic.

5. Limitations of AI

Though AI can conjure images, they often can appear “off” or have subtle errors, detracting from authenticity.

All the photos in this post are ai images.

Whether it’s a wonky eye, a strange extra finger or just skin that looks like plastic… AI is not up to the task…

While the AI is undeniably brilliant and clever, brand photography extends beyond just image creation.

It’s about weaving a narrative, connecting deeply, and showcasing a brand’s essence.

And for that, the expertise and touch of brand photographers remain unparalleled.

Hi There!

Meet Maryanne

I’m a 40 (ahem something…) year old Yorkshire woman.

I’ve been self employed for 10 years (and a photographer for 18) and I totally understand how difficult it is to be visible in business.

Whether that’s because of a lack of self confidence, feeling a bit frumpy or the physical side effects of peri-menopause (hot sweats and forgetfulness anyone) – I promise you I’ve seen it all and still get great photos at every photoshoot.

I honestly feel so honoured when people book me, because they believe that I really want the best outcome for you. There’s no point having a fancy photoshoot if it doesn’t feel authentic to you.

My aim for every shoot is to get photos and video that you actually want to share… and I’ll be there in the side lines cheering you on!
