Why you should consider black & white photos in your marketing

Today I’m looking at “Why you should consider black & white photos in your marketing”.

With the rise in digital images, we’ve seen really bright true to life colours in photos, even if you use a mobile phone the quality is just amazing these days.

So how do you stand out when lots of people have access to decent photos?

With black and white photography that’s how! Not only does it look classic, but it also has a certain charm that’s hard to resist, especially for portraits.

So how can you use black and white photos in your marketing? Let’s dive in and find out!

When you want to convey timelessness

There’s something about it that makes it look timeless. It’s like looking at a photo from the past, but in a good way. If you want your brand to look like it’s been around for decades, black and white photography can be the way to go.

When you want to create a mood

Black and white photos can create a certain mood that’s hard to achieve with colour photography. It can look dramatic, moody, and even mysterious. If you want your marketing to convey a certain emotion, black and white photography might be the way to go.

When your background is messy

Black and white brand photos can transform a photo that is overly busy, or where you haven’t been able to include your brand colours. It removes the distraction of colour and leads the viewer to look at the main focus of the photo.

When you want to highlight contrast

Black and white photography is great at highlighting contrast. It can make light and dark areas stand out, creating a sense of depth and texture. If you have a product that has interesting textures or shapes, black and white photography can help you highlight those features.

When you want to look sophisticated

Let’s face it, black and white images looks sophisticated, even if the subject is a little more mundane. It’s like wearing a little black dress. If you want your marketing to look elegant and sophisticated, black and white photography can be perfect.

When you want to be different

Sometimes, you just want to go against the norm and be a rebel. Everyone is using colourful highly saturated brand photos, so why not stand out with black and white? It can be a bold move that can make your brand look unique.

So, there you have it! These are just a few of the reasons why you should use black and white photography in your marketing. And if you need some inspiration, check out my Instagram where I usually share photo’s of myself in black and white – because it stands out from the rest of my work.

Hi There!

Meet Maryanne

I’m a 40 (ahem something…) year old Yorkshire woman.

I’ve been self employed for 10 years (and a photographer for 18) and I totally understand how difficult it is to be visible in business.

Whether that’s because of a lack of self confidence, feeling a bit frumpy or the physical side effects of peri-menopause (hot sweats and forgetfulness anyone) – I promise you I’ve seen it all and still get great photos at every photoshoot.

I honestly feel so honoured when people book me, because they believe that I really want the best outcome for you. There’s no point having a fancy photoshoot if it doesn’t feel authentic to you.

My aim for every shoot is to get photos and video that you actually want to share… and I’ll be there in the side lines cheering you on!
