How to use storytelling in branding photography

Storytelling can be a powerful tool in branding photography. It allows you to create an emotional connection with your audience and communicate your brand message in a memorable and impactful way.

Here are some ways to use storytelling in your branding photos:

Showcase your process

Use photos to showcase the steps involved in creating your products or delivering your services. This gives your audience a behind-the-scenes look at what you do.

If you create something physical than it can be as simple as showing you working on your creation. Or perhaps sharing what tools you use etc.

If you’re a service it could be what happens when you work with a client. Do you meet in person or do you do it via Zoom?

Highlight your values

Use photos to showcase the values that are important to your brand. This could include sustainability, community, or quality.

Whether this is showing you working with the community or sharing sustainable products its good to show your values.

Share your brand story

Use photos to tell the story of how your brand came to be, and what sets it apart from the competition. This could be by sharing photos from when you first started and comparing them to how you are now.

It could be sharing photos to tell a story of how you helped someone.

Showcase your customers

Use photos to showcase your customers using or enjoying your products or services. This can help create an emotional connection with your audience.

If you’re a product based business then it’s a great idea to actually create a hashtag for people to use when sharing your products. That way you can find the photos and share them. You could even have a page on your website where it pulls through all the images into a gallery.

Tell a story with each photo

Consider using each photo as a piece of a larger story, with the overall collection of photos telling a complete narrative that reinforces your brand message.

Share a day in the life

Have you ever thought it might be good to show what you actually do in a normal day?

I’ve done shoots in the past where I shadow a client for the day and take photos of everything they do. It’s sort of like a behind the scenes type photo but with a little more planning.

By using storytelling in your branding photography, you can create a more engaging and memorable visual brand that effectively communicates your message and connects with your audience on an emotional level.

And when you’re ready, here are three ways that I can help you:

1) Visit my blog for tips on VISIBILITY.

Every week I discuss strategies to improve your visibility, get over your fear of visibility and my latest shoots.  Read here

2) Plan a bespoke photoshoot.

We can plan a shoot based on what you actually need (read more) or you could join me at a Branding Day.

3) Join ‘Visibility School’.

Visibility school is a membership group where you get 12 months of photoshoots, a fab little Facebook group and lots of bonus content too (new for 2023 members) . Read

B-roll

Hi There!

Meet Maryanne

I’m a 40 (ahem something…) year old Yorkshire woman.

I’ve been self employed for 10 years (and a photographer for 18) and I totally understand how difficult it is to be visible in business.

Whether that’s because of a lack of self confidence, feeling a bit frumpy or the physical side effects of peri-menopause (hot sweats and forgetfulness anyone) – I promise you I’ve seen it all and still get great photos at every photoshoot.

I honestly feel so honoured when people book me, because they believe that I really want the best outcome for you. There’s no point having a fancy photoshoot if it doesn’t feel authentic to you.

My aim for every shoot is to get photos and video that you actually want to share… and I’ll be there in the side lines cheering you on!
