What you should read in October

Over the summer I usually read less business books and more fiction. And I’ve read some really good ones this summer and I hope you like them too.

Dean Koontz – Lightening

This is one of my favourite books. I actually read it as a teenager and for some reason it popped up in my suggestions on kindle while I was on holiday. If you like science fiction, time travel, some horrible Nazi’s… this might be the one for you. I enjoyed reading it all over again.

The Luckiest Girl Alive – Jessica Knoll

I read this book super quickly – mainly because it was about to come on to Netflix and I think Netflix can be a bit hit and miss with their adaptations (I preferred the ending in the book) but definitely worth a read.

From Scratch – Tembi Locke

Another book that’s about to be on Netflix so I snapped it up to see if it would be worth watching. I love food inspired stories and because this is actually true (and so poignant) it was such a great book and hopefully a great series too.

Taste – My Life Through food Stanley Tucci

I’ve only just started this one but it’s easy to read and interesting. And who doesn’t love a bit of Stanley?

The Island of Missing Trees – Elif Shafak

A love story starting in Cyprus amid their troubled past – which I was aware of but not to the extent of what actually happened and the cost to the people on the island. It has a very unique point of view… a fig tree.

Stephen King – Fairy tale

Stephen King books are like my comfort blanket. I always know I can pick up one of his books and just forget everything for a few hours.

Mrs Harris goes to Paris – Paul Gallico

If you’ve seen the film, then definitely try the book. It’s only quite short but is so much better than the film. The characters come to life so much better than the film manages.

Girls of Riyadh – Rajaa Alsane

Really enjoyed understanding more about the culture of these women and their society.

And when you’re ready, here are three ways that I can help you:

1) Visit my blog for tips on VISIBILITY.

Every week I discuss strategies to improve your visibility, get over your fear of visibility and my latest shoots.  Read here

2) Plan a bespoke photoshoot.

We can plan a shoot based on what you actually need (read more) or you could join me at a Branding Day.

3) Join ‘Visibility School

Visibility school is a membership group where you get 12 months of photoshoots, a fab little Facebook group. Read more

Hi There!

Meet Maryanne

I’m a 40 (ahem something…) year old Yorkshire woman.

I’ve been self employed for 10 years (and a photographer for 18) and I totally understand how difficult it is to be visible in business.

Whether that’s because of a lack of self confidence, feeling a bit frumpy or the physical side effects of peri-menopause (hot sweats and forgetfulness anyone) – I promise you I’ve seen it all and still get great photos at every photoshoot.

I honestly feel so honoured when people book me, because they believe that I really want the best outcome for you. There’s no point having a fancy photoshoot if it doesn’t feel authentic to you.

My aim for every shoot is to get photos and video that you actually want to share… and I’ll be there in the side lines cheering you on!
