I read a lot.
I read 92 books last year on my kindle app and that didn’t include a few more ‘real’ books… – although it was a bit of a weird year.
So when I recommend a book it’s because it left a mark on me. In that way that really great books do.
When you get to the end and feel like you’ve lost something and you know that you’re going to miss the characters.
I always have my nose in a book. To the point where it drives Andrew mad.
Its impossible to ask me anything when I’m reading… I become so completely involved in the story (when it’s a good one) that I have no idea what’s going on around me.
THE 4 BEST BOOKS I’M READING THIS SUMMER
Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey
Who doesn’t like Matthew McConaughey… granted some of his earlier films were a little bit lacking in depth. But that southern drawl and the way is clothes fit (or don’t fit) are enough to get me.
And then he started doing films like Dallas Buyers Club and popped up in Wolf of Wall Street and it became pretty obvious he was more than just a pretty face.
And then I read his book and it all made sense. Its an interesting mix of his life story and his philosophy on life. Without being all preachy and quite honestly, laugh out loud funny at time.
Hummingbird by Fran Grant
I should start this by saying that I know the author…. but I didn’t get a free copy or anything😂 . I was genuinely interested to read the book.
And I really really wanted the book to be good….
I love reading Young Adult (YA) books. They’re always fun and easy to read and usually have dashing teenage hero’s who are vampires or
But this was such a dark topic. Especially for a YA book.
BUT IT WAS BEAUTIFUL.
And sad, and happy and so so well written. I actually ended up messaging Fran after reading it in one sitting to say how amazing it was, and asking her how she writes like that????
If you’re looking for something easy to read, and told from an interesting view point, definitely check it out.
The ONE – John Marr
Apparently this one is going to be a new TV series on Netflix, so it had to be pretty good.
The premise is that a scientist found out that each of us has a gene that one other person in the world also has, and hence, they’re your soulmate.
It follows 5 people who find their soulmates and all the happiness and problems it entails.
Have to be honest. Thought it would be a bit of girly romance type novel, so I was unsure if it was for me (I do not like trashy romance novels).
But straightaway the characters were excellent and the stories for each of them just kept twisting and turning, with the ending not being what I was expecting at all.
It certainly makes you think about the ethical problems something like this would cause. What if you were already married and found out there was someone better suited to you. Or that your ‘match’ lived in another country… or that they were the same sex as you?
Really good book and definitely glad I read it before it gets butchered by Netflix.
The Salt Path – Raynor Winn
I felt bereft after I finished this book. But it took me a long time to actually read it…
It starts off in a really depressing dark place.
I literally picked this up and read a few pages and then put it down again (for almost a year) as it was just too sad.
But then it wasn’t. It’s an amazing (true) story that makes you want to visit wild places and push yourself to do so much more.
I don’t want to give too much away with this one as its such a beautiful book. It reminded me of reading ‘Wild – Cheryl Stray’ for the first time.
Heart breaking and beautiful at the same time.
