Brand Photography for PR

Brand Photography for PR

Today I’m joined by Michelle Cowan of Socialsendr and Two Northern Lasses podcast to share how she felt about her first Branding shoot and why she needed Brand Photography for PR.

Michelle is also a member of VISIBILITY SCHOOL too, so she must have enjoyed it 😁.

My first introduction to branding photography was last autumn – Jayne (Adamson) and I wanted some photos that we could use in our social media for the Two Northern Lasses podcast.

So we booked onto a 15-minute session on a branding photography day with Maryanne (Scott). I also booked a separate session for myself so that I had some photos to use for my business interests.

Booking on was the easy part!

What to wear was the difficult bit – our podcast logo colours are black/grey/white and yellow – so picking clothes that are ‘on brand’ made deciding a little easier.  Jayne wore a Yellow coat which left me with the easier to think about grey/black and I took a change of top/coat for the photos for my business.

When the day arrived, I gave myself plenty of time to get ready and made more of an effort with my hair and make-up.  But I was soooo nervous, something that I’d not anticipated since I’m generally confident in most settings.  The weather was beautiful, a crisp and sunny autumn day with not a cloud in the sky – perfect.

I literally had no idea how the session would work, how I would stand, what the output would be like. But as soon as I arrived Maryanne made me feel so comfortable. We’d never met before but we easily slipped into conversation and we were off.  The 15 minutes flew by. And by the time Jayne joined me for the podcast pics I’d got into the swing of it.    We were encouraged to do different things to get the right shots. Some felt a bit awkward, but boy did we laugh.

When the link to the photos came through a couple of days later it was like opening a gift.  Excited about the contents and hoping that I would love them.  I was thrilled!

In November I applied for a Covid recovery grant to use on PR which we were awarded in December.  I was presented with a new problem, the opportunity to be in many publications but with only a handful of decent photos of me. I needed more.

So, I joined Maryanne’s Visibility School. A monthly shoot in different locations and I now have loads of really great (dare I say it myself) photos.   Not only do I have the photos but the day of the shoot is like having a day out with friends and as a result I’ve met some truly inspiring business owners too!

Thanks

Hi There!

Meet Maryanne

I’m a 40 (ahem something…) year old Yorkshire woman.

I’ve been self employed for 10 years (and a photographer for 18) and I totally understand how difficult it is to be visible in business.

Whether that’s because of a lack of self confidence, feeling a bit frumpy or the physical side effects of peri-menopause (hot sweats and forgetfulness anyone) – I promise you I’ve seen it all and still get great photos at every photoshoot.

I honestly feel so honoured when people book me, because they believe that I really want the best outcome for you. There’s no point having a fancy photoshoot if it doesn’t feel authentic to you.

My aim for every shoot is to get photos and video that you actually want to share… and I’ll be there in the side lines cheering you on!
