I’m all about being authentic and wanting the photos to come across as a true reflection of you and your business.
But take me for instance… I’m pretty sure no-one wants their first impression of me to be my baggy T-shirt/jogging suit bottoms combo…or the too short pyjamas I seem to be wearing a lot at the moment?
And if they’ve followed me on facebook or this blog they’re going to be pretty surprised to see me dolled up for a night out (although lets be honest…I think I’d be as shocked as anyone else, to see me going out-out! at the moment).
So is it ok for YOU to reinvent yourself in the photos?
Ultimately I think it all depends on who you are, what you do and who your marketing efforts are aimed at?
But I think people worry that reinvention means that you’re not being authentic or the REAL you!
But in reality…reinvention isn’t the same as not being authentic.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking that making yourself feel and look the best you can, is a bad thing, and that you’re not really “YOU”.
When we talk about reinventing ourselves, I think there is always a suggestion that we’re going to become something we’re not.
You certainly would think twice about investing in a high-ticket coach, (god I hate myself for even using that phrase…) I just mean you wouldn’t invest thousands of pounds in a coach if she was wearing a food stained T-shirt and a pair of jeans that look likes she’s been digging… OR she only ever shared badly taken phone snaps?
How you look, does matter…but not for the reasons you think.
It’s not about you becoming a clone of some business woman you’ve seen on facebook or like those white suited women you find on Pinterest. Where you’re made to look like someone else, or like you’ve had a make-over on a TV show.
It’s showing you in the best light possible, looking YOUR best.
Personally, I have no problem with a bit of reinvention.
If wearing something you wouldn’t normally wear, putting on more make-up and acting a bit differently gives you a confidence boost (and fabulous photos) …then I say why not? Thats not really reinvention anyway.
