How to hide your podgy bits in photos.

Learning how to hide your podgy bits in photos is possibly the most important advise I can ever give to you…if it means you up your visibility game!

And I know it’s probably not very in keeping with the whole idea that we should all completely accept how we look, and be body positive.

But I’m a realist.

I love that we’re encouraged to be more body positive. But am I going to be sharing photos of my muffin tops or wrestlers arms (or bingo wings for that matter)??

…not chuffing likely.

So here are a few ways on how to hide your podgy bits in photos:

Jackets

A well fitting jacket, a denim jacket or a blazer will hide a lot of things.

I love to wear a fitted top under a well fitting jacket. It gives the hint of your figure under the jacket without you feeling like your lumpy bits aren’t on show.

Hide in plain sight

Sometimes the easiest thing to do is to simply hide the bits of your body you’re not comfortable with behind something else.

And I’m not saying you should hide behind something huge but maybe a laptop on a table, a well placed book or magazine, might just do the trick.

Don‘t sit down

Standing up is probably going to be the most flattering way to be photographed. But it’s a ridiculous to think you can never have a photo when you’re sat down.

So if you are being photographed sat down it usually looks better if you’re leaning forward slightly and not leaning back. Partly because we’re getting a view straight up your nose, but also because then your chin is flattened down to your body. We say no to double chins.

I have also found that leaning onto something like a table chair arm et cetera really helps.

You are what you wear

Wear clothing that is a little lose but not massively baggy. You might feel like you need to wear something that completely hides your body however the problem is that the camera is just going to pick up a huge amount of fabric. Yes, you will be comfortable but we won’t be able to see a flattering shape.

Side ways

How you stand in a photograph can make a huge difference to how you look. Just a slight change, maybe just a slight turn will alter how you look.

Photographs that are taken straight on, when you have large boobs Are usually less flattering.

Say no to tank tops

Shouldn’t this always be a rule in life? Tank tops or any type of top that stops at your shoulder will just emphasise your arms.

If you are self-conscious of your arms then it is probably better to cover them up. Personally I have always found that three quarter length sleeves work really well when slimming your arms.

Colour

Your choice of colour for your outfit can also help to disguise your body shape.

I have always found that wearing something darker on your bottom bottom half is usually the way to go if you were being photographed. Wearing dark colours on your top half isn’t usually as flattering as colour.

According to the science of colour and what actually suits people, very few people actually suit black especially when it is close to their face. So think carefully about what colour you’ll be wearing.

Material and fabric

Satin and silk and materials that crease easily are a nightmare. The number of hours I have spent after I’ve taken photographs having to photo shop creases means that I suggest you avoid them.

also bear in mind that if you wear a shiny outfit top or dress the light will catch any areas that you are unhappy with. So if you have like we all do any fat rolls around your tummy, it’s very likely that the shining material will cling to those areas and highlight them in the photos.

Hopefully these tips on how to hide your podgy bits in photos will help you avoid feeling self-conscious in your photos so that you actually start sharing more of you.

Hi There!

Meet Maryanne

I’m a 40 (ahem something…) year old Yorkshire woman.

I’ve been self employed for 10 years (and a photographer for 18) and I totally understand how difficult it is to be visible in business.

Whether that’s because of a lack of self confidence, feeling a bit frumpy or the physical side effects of peri-menopause (hot sweats and forgetfulness anyone) – I promise you I’ve seen it all and still get great photos at every photoshoot.

I honestly feel so honoured when people book me, because they believe that I really want the best outcome for you. There’s no point having a fancy photoshoot if it doesn’t feel authentic to you.

My aim for every shoot is to get photos and video that you actually want to share… and I’ll be there in the side lines cheering you on!
