Ways to fight the frump

I don’t know about you… but I’m at that age when I wonder (often) whether Im dressing too old for myself… Actually i sometimes I wonder if I go the other way too…

And when faced with clothes choices in the shops I wonder how on earth I’m supposed to wear it. Is it just me?

Was hitting 40 the big change? The stuff in high street shops seems aimed at younger women and the things I have in my wardrobe often depress me…

Which is why today I’m thrilled to be joined by Claire Evans of Claire Kay Styling

Are you stuck in a style rut?

Are you afraid of looking frumpy?

Here are 3 tips to help you fight the frump.

1) Wear clothes that fit.

Now, this may sound obvious, but very often we hide behind clothes that are too big. When we wear oversized clothes, we look oversized.

Also, avoid wearing anything too small. Worry less about the size on the label, and focus on the fit of the clothes, see what works for your body shape.

2) Use colour wisely.

Be very wary of black, it may be an easy choice as it goes with everything and can may you look slimmer, but you need to consider whether it actually works for you. The wrong colours will make you look older and tired.

Not sure which colours work for you? Get in touch for more information about colour analysis.

3) Get a bra fitting.

All great outfits start with the right fitting bra. If you’re not wearing the right bra, it’s going to show. Think of your bra as an investment.

You wear your bra pretty much every day, the right one should give you comfort and confidence. It can give your outfit a more expensive and polished look, so it’s worth the investment.

Hi There!

Meet Maryanne

I’m a 40 (ahem something…) year old Yorkshire woman.

I’ve been self employed for 10 years (and a photographer for 18) and I totally understand how difficult it is to be visible in business.

Whether that’s because of a lack of self confidence, feeling a bit frumpy or the physical side effects of peri-menopause (hot sweats and forgetfulness anyone) – I promise you I’ve seen it all and still get great photos at every photoshoot.

I honestly feel so honoured when people book me, because they believe that I really want the best outcome for you. There’s no point having a fancy photoshoot if it doesn’t feel authentic to you.

My aim for every shoot is to get photos and video that you actually want to share… and I’ll be there in the side lines cheering you on!
