Personal Branding Superheros

I’m always fascinated to see how people actually use their personal branding photos.

And I think it’s interesting to see that even when someone’s just had a shoot, they’re almost hesitant to actually use them to their full potential. They play it safe, change their profile photo, add a couple of photos to their about page and possibly share a few on social media.

But then the photos sit on their computer like all the freebie pdf’s they’ve downloaded but done nothing with!

So I thought I’d start a blog series on my Personal branding Superheros.

Those business women who use their Branding photos really effectively and leave me wondering why we don’t all do the same?

Here are some of the ladies who I think are absolutely killing it from a personal Branding perspective and who I’ll be looking at over the coming weeks. Some of them are very high profile and others are definitely ones to watch:

Carrie Green
Lisa Johnson
Kerry Lyons
Janet Murray
Denise Duffield Thomas
Jasmine Star
Marie Forleo

So today we’re looking at Lisa Johnson, the passive income queen and founder of ‘GSD society’. I’ve followed Lisa for quite some time, and love how authentic she appears and obviously that she makes great use of personal branding photos.

Lisa Johnson Coaching

How often do you see their face on social media in one week?

Instagram – 4 x
Facebook – 8 x
Linkedin – 8 x

What sort of things do they use photos for?

Instagram – questions about people’s beliefs about coaching, 5 things you need to know about passive income, personal story about what’s happening on that particular day, a post about her core beliefs.

Facebook – 4 of the posts had come directly from Instagram (so a repeat of everything above) but also, another post about her values, she asks about what people are struggling with, promotional post of GSD society and an inspirational personal quote.

Linkedin seems to be a combination of the posts she’s used on insta and Facebook. Reminding us all how important it is to repurpose content!

What else do they post when its not their lovely face?

  • Video’s and lives
  • Inspirational quotes
  • Photos of real life
  • Testimonials with images of the people she’s worked with.

What works well in the photos

The photos that get the most engagements are also the photos that are accompanied by words that either show her authentic self or ask a question.

The photos are obviously staged to some extent but they look natural and are in settings that people can relate to.

Most of the photos are full body photos but often sitting down, so they look less forced and she looks relaxed.

It’s clear that some of the photos have been done abroad from the lighting and setting but they’re mixed in well with the ones that are clearly in the U.K. so it doesn’t feel too aspirational and feels more real.

She’s also not afraid to use selfies and other photos she takes herself. Leading her feeds to feel authentic and not too staged.

How do they use colour and composition?

The branding photos are all edited in a similar way and then she uses the same colours and fonts for quotes and inspirational posts.

So certainly on Instagram there’s a definite flow to how it looks. But because she also includes video and photos of other people (testimonials) and the occasional selfie, it feels real.

You can see that it’s not just a brand, this is a real person who is actually living the life they’re talking about.

Things to take away…

  • Use a combination of professional photos and selfies
  • Share more photos of yourself to improve visibility
  • Have your branding colours in mind when using quotes
  • Don’t forget testimonials and if you can include a photo all the better!

Next time we’ll be looking at Kerry Lyons but for now if you want to learn more about Lisa visit her website

Hi There!

Meet Maryanne

I’m a 40 (ahem something…) year old Yorkshire woman.

I’ve been self employed for 10 years (and a photographer for 18) and I totally understand how difficult it is to be visible in business.

Whether that’s because of a lack of self confidence, feeling a bit frumpy or the physical side effects of peri-menopause (hot sweats and forgetfulness anyone) – I promise you I’ve seen it all and still get great photos at every photoshoot.

I honestly feel so honoured when people book me, because they believe that I really want the best outcome for you. There’s no point having a fancy photoshoot if it doesn’t feel authentic to you.

My aim for every shoot is to get photos and video that you actually want to share… and I’ll be there in the side lines cheering you on!
