You’re not going to like your photos…and why that’s ok!

You’re not going to like your photos …and why that’s ok!

In a perfect world, I take your photos, the shoot is utterly amazing, we get great weather and you love absolutely every single one of your photos…

But I’m a realist…and a woman who understands why You’re not going to like your photos.

You’re going to be self critical

You’re going to concentrate on all the things you don’t like about how you look. It’s inevitable.

Your tummy, your bum, your slightly wonky nose… none of which anyone else will be concentrating on. But that’s what we do!

At the shoot we’re going to do our best to choose flattering poses and situations, but it’s inevitable that you won’t like how you look in some photos.

Ask your friends, ask your family, ask people what they think and be prepared for the fact that they won’t see what you see.

You’re going to worry what others think

After you’ve beaten yourself up about how you look you’re going to be wondering what people will think of you when you start posting them.

When the usual photos you post are holiday snaps and picture of your kids it’s going to be scary posting new photos.

You’ll start by changing your profile photos (after posting and deleting it a couple of times) . Then you’ll update your website…then do a blog post where you include a few photos, and then what do you know…you’ll be fed up of the same old photos and need new branding photos…

Society says you’re not good enough

People who share photos on social media are usually ridiculously good looking and about 20 years old.

We see their images in magazines and on television. We see advertisements telling us that we need to look younger, fitter, thinner.

So it’s going to almost be a rebellious act to share a photo of a normal woman!

My camera’s better than yours

Even if you’ve got a fancy pants phone with a camera, my camera is still going to get a sharper, richer photo with a greater depth of field.

But the downside of that is that it’s a bit less forgiving. It’s like comparing tv in the 80’s with HD tv… or more likely 4K (though I don’t really know what that is…but don’t tell Mr Scott…apparently it’s very important…important enough for us to have approximate 3 tv’s per person in our house!).

But before you start worrying… my super power if finding beautiful light…so although you’ve never seen your own face in such high definition it will look amazing, and glow…

Comparison is a killer

So you decided to get photos after you saw other business women are doing it…except the ones you’ve seen are all super glamorous…and that’s not you.

so you need to know beforehand that your photos aren’t going to look like that. And that’s ok!

And afterwards, just remember how unique you are and that your photos will reflect that!

You’re not 20 anymore

You might not feel any different to when you did when you were 20, well except those clicking joints on a morning…dodgy knee and slowly declining eyesight…but you are different.

You’re not going to like your photos – And it’s not a bad thing. You have so much more to offer than you did in your 20’s, experience, knowledge and courage! And clearly your photos aren’t going to show all that you are but they’ll show you as you are now in all your fabulous glory!

Let’s start a revolution of real women, free from the fear of youth and perfection!

And when you’re ready, here are three ways that I can help you:

Hi There!

Meet Maryanne

I’m a 40 (ahem something…) year old Yorkshire woman.

I’ve been self employed for 10 years (and a photographer for 18) and I totally understand how difficult it is to be visible in business.

Whether that’s because of a lack of self confidence, feeling a bit frumpy or the physical side effects of peri-menopause (hot sweats and forgetfulness anyone) – I promise you I’ve seen it all and still get great photos at every photoshoot.

I honestly feel so honoured when people book me, because they believe that I really want the best outcome for you. There’s no point having a fancy photoshoot if it doesn’t feel authentic to you.

My aim for every shoot is to get photos and video that you actually want to share… and I’ll be there in the side lines cheering you on!
