I met with Anna Mewes – Personal Stylist earlier this week for a Personal Brand photography photoshoot.
Anna is good friends with Catherine, owner of Katie & May (I’ll be sharing some images of the boutique too very soon), a really lovely clothes boutique in Headingley, Leeds.
Catherine agreed that we could use her beautiful shop as a backdrop. As locations go this was one of the best. Certainly for a Personal Stylist.
I learnt something interesting on this Personal Brand photography shoot, and it’s something I’ll be suggesting for everyone. Accessories really make a massive difference to the photos.
I’m not a big on accessories, so it was good to see how they changed the tone of the photos. Just adding a splash of colour with earrings or more glamourous gold bangles really added to the photos.
Anna’s top 5 tips for accessorising a personal branding photoshoot:
Add Some Personality
Accessories are a great way to make your look unique and showcase your personality. This might be leopard-print shoes, earrings in your favourite sunshine yellow or a statement ring that has sentimental value – think about the pieces that really convey something about you and your personality.
Choose A Hero
you don’t want lots of elements fighting for attention within your outfit. Your look should have one single focus and everything else should be build around that. For example, if you have a large, colourful necklace on then this should be the focus of your look so keep everything else more pared down. If your shoes are bright and bold let them be the focus; choose a skirt or trousers which show them off and opt for shades throughout the rest of your outfit that complement them.
Inject some colour
Choosing the right colours and combining them effectively can have a transformational impact on how you look, particularly when worn next to your face. If you’re wearing neutral shades use accessories to inject a colour pop to liven things up.
Think About Scale
The size of your accessories should balance with your height and scale. The taller/grander you are in scale, the larger the accessory you can wear so be bold, otherwise your accessories may get lost. If you’re petite opt for more delicate pieces so they don’t overwhelm you. This guidelines applies to the size of your handbag too, which you may want to include in some of your pictures.
Don’t Forget The Finishing Touches
A statement lip, a beautiful manicure and a chic hairstyle are all important ‘accessories’ to consider, make sure you pay attention to those small finishing touches to create a polished, professional and stylish look.
