What to wear for your branding shoot

I have to be honest….I can’t tell you exactly what to wear for your personal branding shoot. It’s really going to depend on your shape, your personality, the colours that suit you… But I can tell you what you shouldn’t wear.

What to wear for your branding shoot

This is just my opinion, but there are certain things that can make or break your branding shoot.

If you’re in doubt about what suits you, what colours to wear or styling with accessories then I’d recommend having a session with one of these clever ladies

Anna of www.annamewes.com.   She’s a Personal Stylist and Image consultant

Dawn of Apperel Leeds – She can sort out your colours and your style

Laura of Laura Fawcett Style – Colourful outfits and sustainable style.

Anything that doesn’t fit properly.

If it’s uncomfortable, too tight, very short or revealing, its going to be obvious in the photos.  There’s nothing worse than feeling physically uncomfortable in what you’re wearing.

And that translates into the photographs.  You’ll look uptight, you won’t relax and there’s only so much photoshopping that you can have done without it looking odd.

Clothing with large logos

Here, Im thinking particularly of sports type logos (unless you’re a personal training I guess).  When people look at your photos, you want them to see you, not be drawn straight to some words.

Its also worth thinking about inappropriate or rude messages on t-shirts…unless thats your brand and what you’re known for…

Overly fussy patterns

If you’re not confident in mixing patterns and styling your clothes, then this can lead to visually disturbing images…sounds extreme but bare in mind that the focus of the photographs is you.

We want you to stand out, not the paisley shirt mixed with a striped pair of trousers etc.

Plus have a think about where you’re doing your shoot when you think about what to wear for your branding shoot.  Is the background very busy or quite neutral.  Patterns will look better without a fussy background.

Inappropriate clothes.

So if you want to look professional, jeans and a t shirt just won’t cut it.  Just as someone who is more creative wouldn’t need to be dressed in a suit…

Obviously this is just personal opinion on what constitutes scruffy and professional, but its worth thinking about.

Certain colours

This is a tough one, and something we’ll discuss before your shoot.  Obviously some colours will suit you better (get help if you need it!) but have you thought about whether the colours you’re wearing will look good in the location you’ve chosen.

For instance maybe you’re in a light airy location so your outfit might need to reflect that?  Or perhaps you need to look bold and stand out.

Obviously some people look great in neutral colours and others look good in bold colours.  However if you’re wearing black and the background is really dark you’re not going to stand out well!

Hi There!

Meet Maryanne

I’m a 40 (ahem something…) year old Yorkshire woman.

I’ve been self employed for 10 years (and a photographer for 18) and I totally understand how difficult it is to be visible in business.

Whether that’s because of a lack of self confidence, feeling a bit frumpy or the physical side effects of peri-menopause (hot sweats and forgetfulness anyone) – I promise you I’ve seen it all and still get great photos at every photoshoot.

I honestly feel so honoured when people book me, because they believe that I really want the best outcome for you. There’s no point having a fancy photoshoot if it doesn’t feel authentic to you.

My aim for every shoot is to get photos and video that you actually want to share… and I’ll be there in the side lines cheering you on!
